Charges

Do I need to pay?

In England there’s a charge for each item on your prescription, unless you’re exempt. You don’t pay if, for example, you’re 60 or over, under 16, aged 16 to 18 and in full time education, pregnant or have had a baby in the last 12 months, or have a valid medical exemption certificate.

If you need several items, a prescription prepayment certificate could save you money. Check the current charges and who can get free prescriptions on the NHS website.

Running low on medicine?

If you’ve run out of a regular medicine and can’t get a prescription in time, speak to our pharmacist. In some cases we may be able to supply an emergency amount.

Questions

Prescription questions

How long does it take for my prescription to be ready?
Once we receive it from your GP, most prescriptions are ready within a day or two. Some items need ordering in, and we’ll let you know if there’s any delay.
Can someone else collect my prescription?
Yes. A friend or family member can collect it for you. We may ask them to confirm your name and address.
What if my medicine is out of stock?
We’ll do everything we can to get it in quickly. If there’s a supply problem, our pharmacist will talk to you and your GP about the options.
Can I return medicines I no longer need?
Yes. Bring any unwanted or out of date medicines to us and we’ll dispose of them safely. Please don’t put them in the bin or down the sink.
